The setting
Alongside the Car Connect app, Porsche wanted a second surface. One that wasn’t only about interacting with the car, but about the relationship around it: the brand, the dealer, the community.
My role
My first long-term assignment as iOS lead. I joined at kickoff, built the app from the ground up, and stayed two years through launch and beyond while the team around it steadily grew.
The calls that mattered
- Building foundations that survived a growing team: patterns a new engineer could pick up from the code itself.
- Navigating brand strictness and enterprise compliance at the same time. What the brand wants and what the platform expects are not always the same thing, and someone has to make that call case by case.
- Translating between stakeholders. Dealer, community, and ownership features each had their own teams and goals inside a large organization, all pulling on one team.
How it ended
The engagement ran two years through launch and beyond. Long engagements at premium brands are not given out lightly. They are kept because someone trusts the calls being made week after week.
Note: In 2021 the My Porsche Essentials app was merged with the Connect and Car Connect apps into today’s “My Porsche” app. The original My Porsche Essentials is therefore no longer available on the App Store.
